How GPA is calculated

GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits

Example: Calculus B+ (3.3 × 4 credits), English A (4.0 × 3), Biology A− (3.7 × 4) and History B (3.0 × 3) give 49 grade points ÷ 14 credits = 3.50.

Grade points on the 4.0 scale

LetterPointsLetterPoints
A+ / A4.0C+2.3
A−3.7C2.0
B+3.3C−1.7
B3.0D+ / D / D−1.3 / 1.0 / 0.7
B−2.7F0.0

Some schools give 4.3 for an A+ — switch the scale to match. Weighted GPAs for honors and AP classes (often up to 5.0) are not covered.

Cumulative GPA

Enter your GPA so far and the credits it is based on to see your new cumulative GPA after this term: (old GPA × old credits + new grade points) ÷ all credits.

GPA outside the US

GPA is a US system. Students applying to American universities from abroad often need to convert their grades; many universities use an official evaluation service, so treat any conversion as an estimate.
