With a click-through rate of % this CPC equals a CPM of —.

What is CPC?

CPC (cost per click) is the average amount an advertiser pays each time someone clicks an ad. It is the usual pricing model for search ads and many performance campaigns, where you pay for visits rather than views.

CPC formulas

CPC = total cost ÷ clicks
total cost = CPC × clicks
clicks = total cost ÷ CPC

Example: you spend 1,700 and get 2,000 clicks. CPC = 1,700 ÷ 2,000 = 0.85.

How to use the calculator

  • Choose what to calculate: CPC, Total cost or Clicks.
  • Enter the two other values. The result updates as you type.
  • Add a click-through rate (CTR) to see the CPM this CPC corresponds to.

CPC vs. CPM

At a given CTR, CPM = CPC × CTR × 1,000. A CPC of 0.85 at a 1.2% CTR equals a CPM of about 10.20, so if a publisher offers the same audience at a CPM below that, paying per impression would be cheaper — as long as the CTR holds.

Lowering CPC

On most ad platforms, more relevant ads with higher expected click-through rates and better landing pages earn lower prices per click. Tighter keyword and audience targeting also helps avoid paying for clicks that never convert.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate CPC?

Divide the total cost of the campaign by the number of clicks it received.

How many clicks will my budget buy?

Divide the budget by the CPC. With 300 and a CPC of 0.60, you get 500 clicks.

What is the difference between CPC and CPM?

CPC is the price of one click; CPM is the price of 1,000 impressions. They are linked by the click-through rate.
