Genwi is a content sharing site that provides everyone with their own content channel. It lets users make stream-of-consciousness content channels where they can add links to any blog, video, podcast or RSS feed they want and share it with their friends or the whole Genwi community. The site also has a directory for popular content that appears to be based solely on what is being shared the most. You can browse most-shared items by the week, month, content type and category type. The site underwent a major redesign in November 2008. The feed import wizard allows you add your content from other sites to your Genwi profile without an RSS feed. When your friends view your Genwi profile they will see the most recent additions to all of your content online. The ‘Wire’ section has also been updated and turned into a multimedia RSS reader application. There’s a continuous scroll to eliminate paging through updates from your subscriptions and filters (feed name, profile name and category) now show as dynamic links. Filtering a category, for example, results in only updates from that specific category. The same is true for filtering by a feed name or a profile name associated with a feed. In July of 2008 Genwi released several new functionalities, aiming to create more of a platform for online content than a lifestreaming product. They added granular filtering and collaborative filtering of content, both in the reader and on the site overall. Their technology is unique in that they added a backend that can crawl, parse and index any XML feed.
